LATEST CHANGES IN EXPRESS ENTRY ,CANADA
Express entry is changing and it will never be the same again because IRCC (https://www.canada.ca/en.html) is introducing category based Express entry draw ..
Now , the Express entry draws will be conducted category wise .The categories will be decided by the Immigration Minister to meet the economic growth.
in the occupations only a few specific NOC code will be invited which will in line with the labour market demands of Canada.
So,How IRCC will choose those categories that they want to invite.
First criteria would be the labour market demand
the second criteria would be the inputs and the feedback given by their partners which could be and other provinces, employment services, education institutions etc.
And to keep it fair IRCC will report it to the Canada Government that what categories were chosen for the previous year how and why they were chosen and they will also inform the Canada government in advance that what category they will be choosing for the coming year .
Now this clarifires that the every NOC code selected could be different at every year ,which is a good thing because if this year your NOC code was not selected may the next year it will be choosen.
Another great thing is that for this category based selection you may not have to worry much about the CRS cut off.
You mean get the invitation to apply even if your CRS is below the general cut off because for this IRCC will be inviting people based on the category ranking.
For example top thousand people for category A, top 500 people for category B,top 700 people for categorie C,
So now lets talk about the categories which have been selected for this year 2023
Total six categories that have been chosen five of them are job related and one of them is related to the language.
- Six categories for 2023 are:
- Eligibility for the French-language proficiency category
- Eligibility for the healthcare occupations category
- Eligibility for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations category
- Eligibility for the trade occupations category
- Eligibility for the transport occupations category
- Eligibility for the agriculture and Agri-food occupations category

- 4 Eligibility for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations category
- 5 Eligibility for the trade occupations category
- 6 Eligibility for the transport occupations category
- 7 Eligibility for the agriculture and Agri-food occupations category
Six categories for 2023 are:
French language proficiency
Healthcare occupation
Science Technology Engineering and Math occupations (STEM) occupations
Trades occupations
Transport occupation
Agriculture and agri-food occupations
Its no surprise that Healthcare , IT and Trades occupations were chosen for this year as they have a very high demand in .Canada needs a lot more medical professionals, IT professional and Trades people especially the construction workers carpenter, plumber, electrician etc to meet the increasing housing demand .
It won’t be surprising if these three categories are chosen again for the year 2024,
If you fall in any of the six categories then you may have a very big advantage in 2023, you may receive the invitation to apply even if your CRS is less than the general CRS cut off considering that you rank higher in your category .
But for the others you need not worry because the six categories are chosen for the year 2023 but it may change for the year 2024.Also, all program are not ending there is still continue but a lot of it would be covered by category based draws ,other people would also have a chance but since most of the space will be filled by category based draws so for other the quota will be less. In this case the general CRS cut of for programmes which are not in the category based immigration will increase.
IRCTC confirm that these new changes will be implemented in the summer of 2023 in the month of June till August. You may even see like these new draws may starts to happens from this month.
Let discuss these six categories in little more detail.
